I have worked as a staff aide for the YMCA before and after school care program. I also had a child in one of my groups who had Aspergers, as well as a child at the site who I regularly interacted with who had Down Syndrome. I observed in a high school classroom with children who were hearing impaired, and my younger brother has high functioning Aspergers. I have a lot of patience with children who have special needs, and I feel like I have a good connection with them. I have always had an interest in working with special needs children, either as a special education teacher, or in some other way.
