I work at an elementary right now as a PCA for kids with Autism and Down Syndrome. It is my first year doing this, and I love what I do. I love being able to teach them and make a difference in their day. It's amazing to see how smart they are and their abilities. I help them with preparing their food, assisting them with toileting, teaching them through flash cards and index cards, monitoring what they do, and observing and intervening with behaviors. I am willing to learn more about what to do and how I can be a better caregiver for these kids. The age group I work with right now ranges from 1st to 5th grade students, but I am versatile and am willing to work with all ages. My shift right now is about from 9-4, Monday through Friday, so I am willing to work after I get off on those days. Also, once the school year is over, I am willing to work full time Monday-Friday.
