I worked at a summer camp with special needs children and adults from the time I was 15 until I was 18. I was so surprised by how much I enjoyed it, I continued to go back each year after that. I learned to love each child I worked with and their habits, good and bad, grew on me. I worked with children that had autism, Asperger's, Tourette syndrome, Down syndrome, multiple personality syndrome and many other special needs. I also learned to work with children that could not feed, dress or bathe by themselves. I became CPR certified and certified to take care of someone having a seizure. I worked with multiple children that were in wheelchairs and I found completely different ways to do certain things to accommodate them. Working with special needs was the most rewarding thing I have ever done and I haven't found anything that made me happier than being able to care for someone that wasn't fully capable of caring for themselves.
