Natasha was a godsend for my very difficult mother, whom Natasha worked for until she moved to assisted living. And Natasha stayed and supported my mother through the move, and spent days helping to unpack and organize so as to continue to support my mom. Some background: I’m sure I’m not the only daughter who has ever said this, but my mother can be irritable, snippy, and obstinate. She has some cognitive decline which I believe fuels this behavior, and of course can make her hard to work with because she forgets things but doesn’t believe she has forgotten them. Natasha was able to create an honest caring relationship between them to the point that my mother went from adamantly not wanting an aide in the first place to deeply missing Natasha after her move. When Natasha first began, my mother needed help but didn’t want any. My mom was not able to adequately bathe herself or look after her incontinence needs, and before Natasha came it was pretty horrifying to go to my mother‘s home, and without being too graphic, it always smelled bad. Natasha was kind, and above all else gentle and non-shaming in facilitating a trusting relationship where my mother willingly allowed Natasha to help bathe her. Natasha found a good balance between making my mother aware that there were certain “messes” that needed to be cleaned up (otherwise my mother would have prevented Natasha from doing that cleaning) but also many times just taking care of the cleanup without mentioning it to my mom. In other words, Natasha understood that my mother needed to be somewhat aware, but didn’t need to have every mess brought to her attention. The balance would be different for every person, but I can tell you that Natasha will find that balance. It was such a relief to have Natasha’s care - I always knew my mother was safe, befriended, attended to with kindness, and my mother and her home were always clean and smelled good. Natasha can seem a little shy at first, but don’t be fooled – she’s the real thing, caring, warm, and trustworthy in every way.
