Being raised by an educator, I feel like I have almost always worked with children. From an early age I began helping tutor before and after school, and then in college I took courses on development and education while working summers keeping younger children (ages 3-6) safe and entertained at the local YMCA. Currently, I work with children with special needs (ages 4-12) as an ABA Therapist (Applied Behavioral Analysis) and as a Personal Care Assistant. I work everyday not only helping my clients eat, dress, and play but also teaching them how to do those things more independently. I love my job and the children that I work with. I have definitely learned patience, discipline, resourcefulness, and how to look at life in a whole new way! I think I enjoy working with and caring for children mostly because they all give me the opportunity to be a part of them learning and growing each day and I live for that. My experience working with and caring for children has included children with allergies, ADHD, autism, PDD-NOS, OD, CP, and seizure disorders. I work daily with non-vocal children with special needs, including some which utilize sign language and/or PECS.
