My cousin is special needs. He is very unique as he does not have an official diagnosis, but some of his disabilities include stunted growth, limited communication skills and mobility, and reduced cognitive capacities. In high school, I began to help take care of him which later inspired me to work as a special education paraprofessional in both a preschool and a primary school. In addition, my former long term boyfriend's brother was autistic. I would "hang out" with him to give his mom a break (respite). In addition, I have also been employed as a caregiver for elderly and disabled people. My experience paired with my degree in psychology allows me to effectively interact with those of differing abilities.
