Hello! My journey caring for children with special needs began my junior year of high school (5 yrs ago). This was an occasional babysitting job for two children, 7 and 5 y/o, with high functioning autism. My next experience took place the summer after graduating high school where I was also occasional babysitting for a 3 y/o with hearing, vision, and speech impairments. I have additionally cared for children with speech impairments and behavioral issues. Since then, I have been majoring in Recreational Therapy at the University of Toledo for the last 3 yrs, where I have been studying to one day become a certified professional that works with children with disabilities in a therapeutic practice. I feel very grateful for my experiences in high schoo, for I got to enroll in college knowing exactly what I was meant to do in this life. I am hoping to one day be certified in music therapy as I used this technique (before studying it) in high school and found it improved speech and behavior.
