I started working with people with special needs in middle school. I was able to go to their classroom during my study halls and help the teachers with whatever and spend time with the students. When I went into high school, I was able to take an hour of my day and become a TA for one of the Special Education teachers. In the classroom, I participated in whatever subject that they were doing. I also helped out the teachers with whatever they needed. I then was able to get a job at a day program center for adults with disabilities during my second semester of my first year of college. Until I got that job, even though I have worked with students with disabilities in the past, I never realized how much I would fall in love with the work. I have learned so much from my short time working there that I wish I could stay working there forever. The clients that I am able to share my time with have become some people that I will never forget. Each individual has their own special characteristics and personalities and that is what makes them valuable to my life.
