I had the chance to watch Luis teach when I was a 7th grade teacher at the same school where he taught 8th Grade ELA, and it was immediately clear he had a gift for making reading something kids genuinely looked forward to. With his English degree from Berkeley, a Master’s in Education, and years of experience, he brings both deep expertise and a ton of heart to the classroom. One of my favorite things was seeing my former students come back to visit, proudly carrying books from Mr. Cornejo’s library and excited to tell me about the latest story or passage they were reading. That kind of impact really speaks for itself. He connects with all students, but I’ve seen how powerful it is, especially for younger boys, to have a male role model who is passionate about learning and empowers them to love reading.
