I am currently a preschool teacher, but will soon be going to graduate school for special education. I started volunteering in the special education classrooms in my high school. I fell in love with it! I volunteered at Misericordia, a special needs residential home, interned at several special needs schools, and worked at a special needs camp called Camp Little Giant. Camp Little Giant was 8 weeks long and served kids 8+ and adults 18+. Some weeks were for mild to moderate developmental delays, and others were for more profound disabilities. I learned about wheelchair transfers, feeding, and so much more. I also interned at the Ronald M. House, where much of my time was spent with kids who were in and out of the hospital. I have had experience with most diagnoses, from ADHD to Cerebral Palsy. I love working in special education. There's nothing better than seeing a concept finally click for someone who has been struggling with it.
