I have a teaching credential and taught kindergarten/first grade for eight years before becoming a stay at home mother. While raising my three sons, I took care of an elderly neighbor daily while they were in school for 3 years. I would walk next-door and get him out of bed, dressed, and while he washed up, I made his breakfast and gave him his medications. He was diabetic, and I administered his insulin. I was in constant communication with his son. who lived with him. I also drove him to his doctor appointments. Later, I returned at lunchtime to feed him lunch and give him his insulin, made sure he exercised, by walking around the block with his walker or doing some chair exercises with him. I really did enjoy taking care of him. He is no longer here today and I'm really glad we had that time together.
