I responded to a student job posting at my university titled "Needs Help Moving Books". I didn't know it at the time but in a matter of weeks, a retired English professor became not only my employer but also my closest friend and greatest inspiration. She was an elderly petite woman recovering from a shoulder operation and was being treated for ADHD, Bipolar and insomnia. This was honestly the greatest employment opportunity I have had the honor of receiving. I learned so much throughout the intelligent, creative, philosophical, insightful, passionate and captivating conversations. My daily household tasks including but not limited to: washing, drying and folding laundry, weekly bathroom and kitchen cleaning, washing dishes, regularly washed and folded her laundry, cleaned and disinfected bathroom, appliance repairs, furniture rearrangement, alphabetized her library of books, digitally archived paper documents, assisting her friends with digital and technological difficulties. I escorted her to community functions and family events and drove her to doctors appointments (and anywhere she wanted to go!). I made sure her groceries were fresh in the fridge.
