As an Autism Behavioral Skills Trainer, my job is to take the individualized programs created by BCBA's and to implement them in a way that is unique to each child. The job focuses on two main types of training strategies: Discrete Trial Training and Natural Environment Training. Discrete Trial Training is comprised of three elements: antecedent stimulus, child's response, and a teacher provided consequence. Natural Environment Training focuses on the child's integration of skills learned across various environments. My job is to go into each client's home and work with the child in order to produce socially functional behavioral changes. The common goals of applied behavior analysis include: increasing and/or decreasing behaviors, strengthening the quality of a behavior, and eradication of problem behaviors.
