Since Jen starting overseeing the care of our three sons last year (current ages 6, 4 and 1), we have seen a marked improvement in their behavior and demeanor. She approaches her nanny position with a care, dedication and professionalism that is not easy to come by. Her care creates a nurturing and supporting environment, well structured activities and fun playtime. She tailors care appropriately, finding activities to appease a wide range of ages. A few examples come to mind which demonstrate Jen's achievement and creativity in this position. Her ability to come up with innovative ways to solve problems is endless, though. First, when Jen started with our family, we were experiencing discipline problems with our 4 year old. Jen instituted a new discipline/rewards chart and system in our household. Within weeks, we saw drastic improvement. We still use the system today although the negative reinforcements are usually more few and far between. Second, when our Kindergartener came home with suggestions to work on sight words, Jen created new games for him to play which reinforced this skill. One of the games included paper dice which had the words on all sides. Third, our 4 year old has been struggling to write his name in a consistent fashion. Using his love of comic book terms and superhero lingo, she started drawing boxes for him to write his name within. Beyond the lines of the box are things like thunder or hot lava, whatever he picks that day. It's so amazing to see how he sees it as a fun game now and how he's able to very neatly print his name when motivated by amusement. Jen also pursues opportunities for growth and learning outside the home, from visits to the library to outings at the zoo. She searches out creative activities and experiments for the children and finds ways to incorporate learning into fun experiences. Jen shows a great commitment to the job and children. When she is working, you find her focused on the children, not diverting attention elsewhere. She often shows up early and almost always leaves late. For instance, she always ensures the house is cleaned up and the kids are ready for dinner (if not starting the dinner herself). This is above and beyond and is always provided unprompted. We will be relocating out of the area this summer and I'd take Jen with me if I could. She's become a part of our family and we will all miss her dearly. Jen's communication skills are excellent. She keeps us well apprised of any issues or important events for the kids. She integrates well with each child's school, teachers and other parents, too.
