Of the many caregivers we used over the many years caring for my dad, Eugene was by far the very best and most caring care giver. My sister and I have so many times said to each other that he was our gift from God as he just was an amazingly well trained and kind person. My dad became very unsteady on his feet but insistent on walking on his own up to the very end at 97. Eugene was always by his side, slept on an air bed at the foot of dad’s bed, set a bed alarm under dad so he could jump up several times a night to make sure he got to the bathroom okay as dad refused to pee in his diaper. Eugene always worked with Don on PT exercises, walks on the street, ensuring he ate, took his medicine, took his blood pressure, checked his oxygen levels, helped get him dressed and going with him to doctor appointments and most importantly Eugene was kind to Don and never got irritated with him and trust me when I say that my dad could be very stubborn and frustrating. From time to time, I’d see my father call Eugene over and give him a hug, look Eugene in the eyes and say “thank you Eugene for taking care of me”. Eugene was 24/7 on the job and worth every penny for all the work hid did around the clock. At the end of dad’s life, we got hospice involved and Eugene knew exactly what to do and ordered oxygen before it was needed, had the emergency morphine and med pack ready and knew when it was time to use it so dad didn’t suffer. It was amazing how he anticipated what was coming and was ready with equipment and knowledge to monitor dad’s vitals, oxygen, look at the color of his skin, take his temperature and advise us as my family was there up to the time he passed away peacefully. Thank you Eugene for caring for my dad with love and the amazing knowledge base you have as a truley kind human and professional. We will never forget you.
