Growing up with a disabled uncle, I was exposed to people with special needs from a young age. During this time, I assisted in the care of my uncle and developed a passion for doing this type of work. I volunteered in several special needs classes during my high school career. My time with the children in the classroom was amazing. I got to teach them how to count money, become better writers, and watch them graduate. The students I worked with in the classroom were Mildly Mentally Disabled. I also got involved with a club which allows students to play games with children with special needs. I'm looking forward to pursuing my dream of working with special needs families.
