Dee was a lifesaver for our family. My husband suffered from vascular dementia. Dee cared for him while I worked and when his disease became the worst. She was so patient with him as he was still physically strong, quite mobile and fiercely independent. He loved to work in the yard and garage even though he didn't remember how to do things or why. She kept him safe and let him explain what he was doing in his "special" language. His vocabulary was very limited so she often had to interpret what he was saying. They went on outings, she fixed lunched, kept the house clean, and did laundry and errands as needed. Most valuable was the friendship we established and the way she took so much responsibility off my shoulders. While my husband was still able, they did puzzles and Montessori activities. She always let him think he was independent, as she watched carefully from a distance. We all lived in his world which could be challenging. Most important he was happy.
