I am a loving caregiver for disabled people and children with over five years of paid experience! I work in autism research, and also have a lifetime of learning from my sister with high support needs autism, so working with autistic kids* is especially in my realm of experience & very near to my heart. However, I've also worked with those with a broad range of other disabilities, including ADHD, ODD, conduct disorder, etc. Sense of humor is crucial to me. My philosophy: you or your loved one leads; my job is to learn and adapt to them. *A note on condition-first language: I believe "autistic" is not a bad word. As many autistic folks I know have spoken abut, I use it first in an effort to de-stigmatize.
