During my senior year, I had an internship at Barbra McClintock Stem here in Pasco. I worked in the life skills classroom, which was for the special needs children who were further behind. I worked with non verbal, non mobile, down syndrome and vision impaired children. For the child who was non mobile I would have him out of his walker and hold his hands to help get him talking and get blood flow in his legs. For the child who was non verbal I worked on his communication skills, pointing to what he needed/wanted, getting him to repeat basic words (please, thank you etc). I love working with these children because they deserve to be treated just like any other child. I want them to know that they're no different than any other child. I'm currently planning to become a Special Education teacher.
