I have spent four summers doing in home care for a young girl with cerebral palsy. Together we did exercises, stretching, standing, animal therapy, and other therapeutic activities. I also have experience working with a young girl who has down syndrome. I primarily taught her American Sign Language because she was unable to communicate verbally. I also have experience with a young boy who has Autism. This was more of a babysitting job where we spent time outside. I have also spent a lot of time volunteering with older Deaf and Deaf blind individuals. This consisted of socializing and going out for walks. Working with these different individuals has encouraged me to pursue occupational therapy. I recently graduated from college with a bachelors degree in occupational science and a masters in occupational therapy. I love spending time with individuals who have disabilities and helping them achieve goals. I also love using American Sign Language whenever given the opportunity!
