I have three years of experience working with IDD individuals and am still in this field. My responsibilities include: Preparing or assisting individuals with preparing meals, assisting individuals with homework (if they go to school), dressing, bathing, ambulation, transportation, laundry, cleaning their rooms, daily chores, educating them on daily life skills, such as hygiene, counting money, and manors (i.e. Please, Thank You, Excuse Me, Listening when someone is speaking, etc.). I also assisted with travel taking individuals to places such as Abilene Zoo, Ft. Worth Zoo, Fiesta Texas, Sea World, and the Omnimax Science Spectrum. I also went out daily with individual to down town river walk and kids kingdom park, also assisted with teaching dining out skills. I have become very knowledgeable in medical issues working under the license of a Nurse. This includes but is not limited to monitoring urine output to try to prevent UTI, monitoring stools for constipation or diarrhea prevention, catheters, PEG tub's, and have taken a course in First Aid and CPR. I also have been distributing prescription medications according to direction as per physician. I have also worked with Diabetic and seizure individuals.
