I am the mother of a daughter with autism. She has been a very successful student and is working in a work training program. I have been through the public school system with my daughter, and understand the importance of a student's IEP. Because I have a student with autism, I have been in the company of many students over the years who are also on the spectrum. I understand that each student has their own identity and needs to be treated respectfully. I have sponsored birthday parties and sleepovers in my home with much success. I have attended school trips and lent a helping hand to the teachers when the need arose. I have provided after-school child care for a preteen student on the autism spectrum from October 2007 through June 2009, and I continue to provide transportation for her when needed. I am an approved substitute instructional aide for my local school district. In that position, I have had the opportunity to work as a paraprofessional in the classroom with a student on a few occasions. As a substitute, I have the required State, Child Abuse, and FBI clearances. I also have experience working with students with other learning differences including ADHD. I have attended various seminars over the years sponsored by the Bucks County Intermediate Unit, St. Mary's Parenting Center, Sharing & Caring Support Group, and Bucks County Community College.
