My relevant qualifications include that I am a recent graduate from the University of South Dakota, where I obtained a BS in Psychology and a BFA in Musical Theater with a minor in Dance. During my studies in Psychology, I have taken course work focusing on both childhood and adult development, special needs (including autism), interpersonal relationships, family dynamics and general therapeutic strategies. Some of the most exciting and relevant skills that I have acquired while studying theatre, have been the many different tactics that are necessary to be able to clearly communicate with another person as well as working with a variety of age groups in close setting. When working in such environments I have also learned to be energetic and vibrant even in the most tiresome of situations. Also, having a background in theatre, and having previous jobs involving theatre education and outreach, I have learned how to introduce people to new and exciting avenues for self-expression and different ways of relating to others through games, reading and performance. I have also had previous volunteer and service experience with the Transition Program in Littleton, Colorado, working with young adults who struggle with mental and physical disabilities. This experience taught me about what it takes to be able to relate information clearly and calmly in even the most stressful of situations and environments. It also sparked a passion for working for and with others in service, to better everyday life for those with special needs. I have also had volunteer experience working in low income school Headstart Programs and working with special needs toddlers in these environments.
