I have spent more than 11 years working with individuals with Autism. I worked at a therapeutic school for individuals with autism for 10 years outside of Chicago and moved to Olathe in the Fall of 2016, where I now work as an Autism Instructional Aide, for the school district. When I started at the school I had no previous knowledge or experience in this field. I came to know the students and then their families as I expanded to do respit with multiple individuals who became my extended family. I have my primary experience with autism, but I have worked with many individuals who need other supports in their day at a residential facility for adults with developmental disabilities I worked at in Chicago, Misericordia. They housed about 600 residents who needed varying levels of assistance from minimal supervision to hospice care. I believe to Assume Competence, no matter what a person shows you from their outward physical behavior or appearance
