For three years, I was the caregiver for an 8-year-old boy with charge syndrome and autism. He is deaf and non verbal. He is the smartest, strongest, and most loving person I've ever met. Taking care of him was an amazing learning experience. I would get him off the bus every day, make him a snack or sometimes a meal because he loved food. He was still in diapers so I needed to change him. Toward the end of my working there he started potty training so I had to be very strict with putting him on the toilet every 20 minutes and sit with him for at least 15 minutes every time to help him learn to use the bathroom on his own. I had to learn some basic terms in sign language so he could start communicating more. We would play tons of games, watch his favorite shows, play outside in the pool, and just have fun. I am in school for special ed and would love to get more experience with children or adults with special needs because I think they deserve a kind, caring person to care for them
