I have been working in Boston, MA from February 2012- July 2014 as a Case Worker / Developmental Disabilities Supported Housing Specialist. I assist individuals with developmental disabilities and co-occurring mental illness with everyday living tasks. Help clients develop organizational tools, they will realistically adopt into their lives, that will help them stay independent. Practice social skills, with role-plays and activities, to teach clients how to communicate with others successfully. Help the clients source appropriate employment, then coach them through the process of getting and keeping a job. Documented and implemented goals set forth through Individual Service Plans. Document weekly service logs and quarterly progress notes. Coordinate, document, and attend healthcare appointments for clients, and serve as a human service representative to ensure clients' needs are being met and respected. Maintain communication with family and service providers about progress and disposition of the client when appropriate. I am up to date MAP, CPR, and First Aide Certified. I have worked as a Private Special Needs Caregiver for a family in Medford, MA beginning October 2011 - Present. I work with 9-year-old twins with PTSD and associated mental health and behavioral issues. Coach twins on personal de-escalation techniques and self soothing exercises. Lead age appropriate activities to help twins learn social skills and ways to express negative emotions and thoughts. Set limits and give age appropriate consequences as needed in a firm and nurturing manor. I also worked in Arlington, MA. May 2008 - November 2011 as an Assistant Residential Supervisor I. Directed an Expressive Therapies group once a week addressing adolescent issues. Counseled and coached clients in everyday situations to help them problem solve and build decision making skills. I am CPI, CPR, and First Aid trained and certified. I was a Volunteer Coordinator for a Treatment Center and a member of Activities and Sunshine Committees. Attended weekly trainings and staff meetings to discuss needs of clients with mental illness, various behavioral disorders. Supervised and directed skill building activity groups with female clients ages 12-19 in a therapeutic milieu. Helped to create individualized behavior and crisis plans that addressed the specific clients' therapeutic needs and progress.
