About Amy K

Experience with elders began when I was young and spent time with grandparents, elderly people through a partner program, and now have a couple that I spend time with for socialization, as well as assisting with getting various necessities. This couple has been part of my life for three years; noting that I have helped them navigate through medical treatments, loss of income, access to support, and genuine friendship. Even though elderly is different, I bring a background of special education, which I provided hands-on care for high needs students with limited understanding and communication skills for 27 years. Special education requires patience, nurturing, commitment, relationships, and advocacy, which is also key to working with elderly people. My own parents and in-laws are in their mid-late 70's, so I know first-hand how important time and relationships are at the later stage of life. In addition, I love to listen, share, and hear life stories of elders.
