About Alena

Alena is returning to her hometown, Durham, to pursue a Master of Social Work degree at UNC-Chapel Hill after spending six years working in education in rural Mississippi. She has experience with infants, toddlers, and has worked extensively with children of all grade levels. Alena is fluent in French and proficient in Spanish. She is certified to teach both, as well as English to speakers of other languages (ESL). After her time in the classroom as a member of Teach For America's 2015 corps, she directed an after-school program that supports students with exceptional academic, behavioral, or emotional needs.
