About the job

Newport News family needs a part-time tutor to help assist an eighth grader with ADHD whose grades plummeted after the death of her grandpa. She's headed to 9th grade and needs help with research, writing, taking notes and basic study skills to succeed in high school. Our goals include: Helping her get to grade level in English, Math and Science; Improving her vocabulary, english/grammar/reading comprehension; Teaching her to read and write in cursive; Brushing up on basics concepts in Math, English and Science she may have not learned during remote, pandemic learning; General help with time management for studying, homework and Assistance with feelings of ambivalence towards school and learning. (She was bullied throughout middle school and it has caused her to not enjoy school like she used to do. This is a long-term assignment.)
