About who needs care: She is having new trouble walking and getting up and down stairs to travel to medical appointments to locate the cause. We need someone to help her up and down several flights of stairs and transport to medical appointments. About the care needs: Patience and kindness are a must. My mother-in-law (MIL) is kind and can give up on herself when things get hard. The caregiver must be patient and kind to ensure that my MIL does what is best for her health. English is her second language, so patience and persistence to understand her English and ensure she understands what is being told to or asked of her are also important. We can translate over the phone when needed, and she must request a translator at the doctor's office to ensure she understands. The primary concern is whether the caregiver has the strength and/or skill to assist her mobility with stairs. We estimate her weight to be around 200lb. She is approximately 5 foot 5 inches. At this time, she can ambulate slowly on flat ground. She can get into and out of the car and says she can drive. However, we don't believe she should be driving herself until the Drs figure out what is going on. Services needed include: transportation, and mobility assistance.
