My mother has dementia and has periods where she is very well and where she is confused. We request an 8:00 a. m-Noon shift to ensure she has breakfast, coffee, medication, and is dressed for the day. Additional duties include making up her room, keep up with her laundry (minor), and companionship. By noon, she is settled down and watches her favorite program, Heartland and naps a bit in the afternoon. She is less confused during this part of the day. We feel alright with her being by herself between noon and 4:00 p.m. We request an additional four hours of care from 4:00-8:00. During this time, ensure she gets her dinner and every two days, set up her shower so she can clean up and get ready for bed. Make sure the house is in order and that her bed is turned down. She puts herself to bed when she is ready. This is the current routine.
