About who needs care: Moderate vascular dementia. Needs to be led through exercises (demonstrated). Her walking improves and her arm/shoulder mobility improves when she is able to be led through exercises a few times per week. No lifting would be required, nor transfers. She uses a rolling walker for support. She has a lift chair which she "lives" in - she will only get up from it to go to the bathroom. The exercises improve her balance and ability to walk. She sleeps on and off all day. She enjoys watching sports with someone. I would like to have someone who would eat dinner with her because she usually eats better if someone else is there eating with her. She receives meals-on-wheels for lunch which sometimes she eats and sometimes does not. About the care needs: Patience is needed. She will ask the same questions over and over again. She does like to do jigsaw puzzles and has declined from 500 pieces to 200-300 pieces now. She also enjoys word search books/puzzles. The doctor has suggested having her read out loud to improve ability to recall words. Ideal caregiver should be compassionate, patient, kind, respectful, cheerful, and outgoing. The house is cluttered and somewhat dusty, so the caregiver will need to be able to not be bothered by that. I do not want someone to clean the house or declutter - it upsets my mom when things are moved. Services needed include: companionship, and mobility assistance.
