About who needs care: Mom has moderate dementia, loves to play Word Cookies on phone, prefers to sleep in. Loves music and singing, especially old time musicals(Oklahoma, Sound of Music) Loves old Gene Autry or Roy Rogers cowboy movies. I usually try to encourage getting out of bed by first playing music, singing, engaging in conversation, encourage hydration. very painful for her to walk, but she is abe with her cane and an extra steadying arm to walk short distances. Independent toiletting but needs to be cajoled or reminded to get up to go to the toilet, Once she is up and headed to the bathroom she is aware she needed to go but with bad knee pain she resists getting up. My dad lives with her but is also 90 and not very good with creative persuasion to encourage mom to move. Once mom is up she likes to sit in a recliner and watch happy things(animal shows, musicals, romantic comedies or old time musicals). About the care needs: Easy going woman who can efficiently shower her and wash her hair. Mom loves to have her scalp and back massaged in shower. Mom was an X-ray technician and nurse and worked in a small town hospital. She has a cheerful spirit usually unless she is in pain, she is not a complainer. Responds well to compliments and happy people. She loves her dog, Dulcinea, an 11 yr old corgi mix, very friendly and loves to stay close to mom's feet. Mom's caregiver will not need to care for the dog but should be comfortable with a dog. Services needed include: feeding, and bathing / dressing.
