About who needs care: Mom starts most days with a cup of coffee or two, then chats on the phone with my sister, who calls her daily. She likes to garden and sew, and will spend her days on one or both of those things, plus watching the news with her cat. She has ties to her local rec center and Humanists group, and has local friends she likes to meet up with for meals. My brother is in town, and will come over to help with yard work or the occasional fix around the house. She also enjoys thrifting at various local second hand stores, though her mobility isn't great and she will generally lean on a shopping cart while wandering through a store. She was recently in a car accident--the first of her life--and is currently without a car. She's become frustrated and depressed without this access to freedom, especially to be able to run errands whenever she needs to. That said, there are some concerns about her resuming driving, namely her reaction time, memory, and vision. About the care needs: Patience is key! Mom's memory is not great, so talking with her can mean answering questions repeatedly, or hearing the same stories or statements repeatedly. Being interested and easy-going is ideal. Someone with an interest in sewing, lace, quilting, gardening, plants, herbs, cats, mysteries, music, movies, or thrifting would be fun for her. And someone with an open-minded belief system would be ideal. Services needed include: transportation.
