About who needs care: Our Mom has Alzheimer's dementia, she is ambulatory but needs help sometimes with walking/Bathroom - although wears pull-ups. She naps often, in her bedroom. We have a "baby monitor" and can see her room when she is up. she can get out of bed by herself, and likes to "make her bed". She is getting more difficult to engage (used to read/watch TV etc., ) she is quiet, but gets confused about her surroundings sometimes, she is no longer wanting to go outside or in the car, so getting to the store etc., has been more difficult. Our Dad died few years ago and she still questions where he is... We need help probably once weekly, in order to get to post-office, dump, grocery store or appointments for ourselves. she is a lovely, wonderful Mom, and not angry or irritated, just gets confused. About the care needs: the ideal fit would be someone who is not too talkative, or loud. She is terribly hard of hearing and refused hearing aids years ago. We just want someone to be with her, to keep her safe, while we are out for those few hours weekly. she gets confused when you ask too many questions. so really just a companion, to sit and be with her. My sister is living full time with our Mom, and I come down from RI to give her relief every few months. I worry about my sister, and want her to have scheduled time to detach for a few hours (at least I n the beginning) every week. Services needed include: companionship.
