About who needs care: I am looking for an attendant to supervise and provide companionship to a disabled adult/male who has Downs syndrome in his own home during the day. This is a consumer directed care position. As an attendant, you will provide various services to the client like Making sure he is accounted for at all times (he is a runaway risk) Making sure he is safe and content (does not comprehend safety issues and has emotional outbursts including aggression at times) Helping with meals including making sure he is eating correctly (choking hazard) Provide ADLs like toileting help, hand and oral hygiene, clothing and shaving Provide companionship like conversation, going into the community with reliable transportation you would provide , playing games, movies, activities like board games or video games Encourage independence and problem solving Must be able and willing to run into danger if client decides to run Must be able to make split decisions about safety during emotional outbursts or aggression Prefer someone with restraint training or used to dealing with physically aggressive clients Prefer someone who has held a CNA, PCA or has experience being a home healthcare worker Men are encouraged to apply as the client is a grown man physically and client works better with men He also has a tendency to be inappropriate with women Services needed include: meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, companionship, feeding, and bathing / dressing.
