About who needs care: My mother is 75 and has been diagnosed with a form of dementia, likely Frontotemporal Dementia. She was a physician and highly accomplished in her earlier life, but now has significant challenges with language and communication. She primarily understands Hindi and Gujarati, and is most comfortable when spoken to in those languages. She is not physically very active, and sometimes has difficulty with stairs or navigating the home on her own. She tends to be very quiet and can sit for long periods unless gently engaged. Her ideal day would include calm, familiar routines, some light activity, simple conversation or music in Hindi or Gujarati, and gentle reminders for medication, meals and hydration. We are looking for someone who is kind, patient, and ideally familiar with South Asian culture and language to help her feel more at ease. About the care needs: We are looking for a female caregiver who is kind, calm, and physically able to assist someone who is around 150 pounds, particularly with standing or occasional movement around the house. Patience and flexibility are essential, as my mother has dementia (likely Frontotemporal Dementia) and her needs and moods can shift throughout the day. Ideally, the caregiver would speak or understand Hindi or Gujarati, or at least be open to working with someone who primarily understands those languages. A gentle and respectful demeanor is very important, along with an intuitive sense of how to provide companionship without overwhelming her. Familiarity with dementia care, especially how to engage without relying on verbal conversation, would be a huge plus. We value someone who can quietly create structure and comfort perhaps through music, simple physical activity, or just a calming presence. Services needed include: transportation, meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, companionship, feeding, bathing / dressing, and mobility assistance.
