My father is type 1 diabetic with frontotemporal dementia. He is OCD about monitoring his blood glucose levels. His ideal day is just sitting in their apartment (at my brother’s residence in Gibsonia, PA) watching television. He does not like to leave the house even to sit outside. He is experiencing a number of complications from the FTD including trouble swallowing and he gets agitated rather easily in certain situations including when he is worried about his blood glucose levels. Our goal is to give our mother a chance to get out and keep living her life, to a certain extent, by hiring a single caretaker to come regularly. We would like the caretaker we hire to have experience working with dementia patients.
