About the job

About who needs care: My mom has been diagnosed with CJD, a fatal, rapidly declining dementia. She has appx a year to live. She is currently experiencing mild confusion and significant balance challenges. We are seeking someone to assist her with daily living activities as well as bathing, assisting with climbing stairs, food prep, laundry and occasional outings. I (her daughter) am her primary caregiver and it is becoming too much for me to do alone. Her preferred hours are morning to assist with getting out of bed, dressing and grooming and preparing breakfast and evening, helping to get into bed. About the care needs: Dementia care knowledge is a must as this disease has a very fast-moving progression toward death, so understanding the aspects of decline and being able to respond correctly is paramount. A bright and talkative person would make my mom very happy as she is also talkative and this will help her stay aware as long as possible. My mom loves her garden and may occasionally like short excursions out. Our home has stairs and as long as she is able she would like to go up and down them with assistance so she is not forced to live on one floor. Services needed include: meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, companionship, feeding, bathing / dressing, and mobility assistance.
