About who needs care: My stepmother is a woman in her 60s who survived a stroke and is now wheelchair-bound, with paralysis on her left side. She has a warm and loving personality and enjoys going to church, watching wrestling, and spending time with her family and grandchildren. Her daily routine typically starts with light morning exercises, followed by breakfast. In the afternoon, she may have lunch at home or attend a doctors appointment or run an errand. She's usually in bed by 8:30 p.m. and requires overnight assistance with toileting. We're looking for a compassionate and reliable caregiver who can support her daily needs while also providing companionship and encouragement. About the care needs: 1. What type of personality would be a good fit? Someone who is outgoing, friendly, and talkative would be a great match. My stepmother enjoys conversation and being around people, so a caregiver who is confident and engaging would really help her feel at ease. A family-oriented person would also be ideal, as our family is close-knit and spends a lot of time together. 2. Are there any specialized skills they need? Yes. The caregiver should have skills typically associated with CNA training. That includes helping with toileting, providing medication reminders, assisting with lifting and transfers, accompanying her to doctors appointments, and helping with light housekeeping and exercise. 3. Should they have any specific hobbies/interests? It would be helpful if they enjoy socializing and have a genuine interest in getting to know the person theyre caring for. If they like things like church, family gatherings, or even watching wrestling, that's a plusit would give them something to bond over. Being comfortable in a family-centered environment is really important. Services needed include: transportation, meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, companionship, and mobility assistance.
