About who needs care: Mom has macular degeneration and has difficult time seeing. She cannot read, watch TV or cook. She also wears hearing aids. Mom is healthy and takes no medications. Sometimes she uses a cane to walk with for stability. She also has a walker for longer walks. Unfortunately, due to her low vision, there is not many hobbies mom can enjoy. She likes to listen to Irish Music and reminisce about the old days. She used to play cards, watch the news and other game shows (Wheel of Fortune) on TV but she does not enjoy tv any longer as she cannot hear or see it. Mom sleeps quite a bit in her easy chair and goes into the kitchen for tea and toast any time from 7 a.m. - 2 p.m. depending on when she wakes up. She eats a light lunch sometimes and/or an early dinner. Usually, she only eats two meals a day. She is bored/lonely as there is not much she can do. She likes to sit in the yard if weather is nice and have us get things done for her (e. g. laundry, errands, housework and other odd jobs around the house). She used to be a meticulous housekeeper, and she does not like clutter or papers all over the place. About the care needs: Someone who is calm, patient and not pushy or talks too much. Someone who is good with dealing with older people who cannot see or hear well and who are often confused. Mom is from Ireland and would likely get along well with someone who is also from Ireland but that is not required. Mom is not sick, she is just old and needs some help and attention. Services needed include: meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, companionship, feeding, and bathing / dressing.
