My aging father is going to need some support as he continues through this phase in life. He is currently living in a house but we (his family) are working on getting him into a smaller apartment/senior living facility. He needs help with groceries, feeding his cat, changing the litter, taking trash out, doing laundry, and having someone nearby during his showers. He likes to cook but has limited capacity to fully cook for himself, so someone to assist him in the kitchen is preferred. He has mobility issues, and someone encouraging him to stretch, move around, and be more active would be a huge plus. He is a licensed therapist who still practices from time to time. He's an intellectual who loves food and deep conversation. Other times, he prefers to be quiet and just listen to his podcasts. While he is aging and has some memory/intellectual changes due to the aging (and from some prior intense hospitalizations), he's pretty well with-it and knows what's going on. He just might need to be told things a couple of times for him to really "get it." An ideal day would include taking naps, quiet meditation, listening to a podcast, baking biscuits, and going on a slow walk. History, psychology, science, food and the culinary arts, philosophy... the man is an intellectual! Ideally CPR/first aid/AED certified would be a plus. Additionally, some culinary skills would be preferred. Someone who's able to motivate him to move around, in a gentle way. Encouragement to get out of bed to either help with cooking something, or go on a walk, or tend to a garden/plants, etc. Also ideally a good conversationalist. There's a bus stop nearby off 39th st, and a 5 minute walk to the house from there. Additionally, there is available parking at the house. He has one cat named Bob who is pretty timid around strangers and tends to hide under the bed anytime anyone else is around. When it's just my Dad and Bob, they hang out a lot and Bob is pretty bonded to him. Bob is a very sweet gentle cat once he warms up to you, but it takes a lot of time to get there.
