About who needs care: Hi, My 91-year-old grandmother has dementia, HBP, and CHF. She is a former preschool teacher and Foster Grandparent, and a proud mother of nine children-six of whom live nearby, one lives out of state, and two have passed away. She is also a grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoys reminiscing about her past, playing her keyboard, singing, and watching shows like Cops, Cheaters, and Tyler Perry comedies and dramas. Due to her condition, when her mind is not actively engaged, she may dwell on negative thoughts and responds well to gentle redirection. She sometimes becomes confused and has difficulty completing ADLs, such as choosing appropriate clothing, dressing in sequence, bathing, and maintaining personal hygiene. She typically does not ask for help, which can sometimes lead to pacing or back-and-forth wandering as she tries to manage tasks on her own. Additionally, she has limited vision in one eye, follows a special diet, and requires regular reminders to use her walker safely and to stay hydrated. She also has a beloved Pomeranian who is a great source of joy and comfort to her. About the care needs: We are seeking someone with experience in dementia care who can provide gentle support, encourage light exercise or daily movement, and offer companionship and supervision while my mother is at work or running errands. The ideal candidate will be comfortable around dogs and have an interest in music, children, and activities like singing or playing instruments. We also prefer someone who can provide proof of current BLS/CPR certification and is able to take basic vitals, such as blood pressure. Services needed include: meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, companionship, feeding, and bathing / dressing.
