About who needs care: My father will be returning home on June 5 after a major spinal surgery and 12 days at a rehab hospital. He also has Parkinsons which complicates his mobility issues. My mother and I would like full-time help in the house for the first days or week he is home. He will need help re-learning routines in our house such as getting in and out of chairs, getting in and out of bed, using the toilets, managing medications again, etc. He may also need some light nursing care like monitoring his vitals and keeping an eye on his surgery incision for our peace of mind. We will also be expecting in-home PT, OT and wound care to start a few days after he arrives home. But we are looking for someone to be there 24/7 in those first days as we want to feel confident he will have trained help there to support us. About the care needs: Friendly, positive personality. Skills in working with post-surgical patients and people with Parkinsons. Nursing skills to monitor vitals, keep an eye on incision, and help manage medications. Help with dressing, bathing, and toileting as he adjusts to doing these tasks himself. We want to encourage him to get back into hobbies like reading, audiobooks, computer games and ways to keep him cognitively stimulated. Services needed include: feeding, bathing / dressing, and mobility assistance.
