About who needs care: My mother was diagnosed with a brain tumor March 1, 2025. She has completed radiation and is currently undergoing chemo (the pill, which is taken at home). The tumor affects her balance so she is using a walker, although she gets around well by herself. She is able to complete most of her daily tasks--going to the bathroom, making herself breakfast and lunch, showering (although she may sometimes need a little help with this). We are concerned about her cognitive state and ability to problem solve should out-of-her routine situations are. Her treatment has left her a little confused and, at times, impulsive and agitated. We are looking for someone to drive her to appointments, prepare dinner, help with small tasks around the house, and to generally be available should she encounter problems. Her home contains a separate mother-in-law unit which could possibly be used to house her companion. She also has many friends who stop by daily to offer her companionship. About the care needs: My mom gets along with pretty much everyone. She likes to chat and play games like cards and dominoes, so that might be nice although not totally necessary due to her large social circle. Since the radiation she has on occasion gotten irritable and worked up, so ability to gently calm these situations (much like you would a toddler) could be helpful. No specialized nursing skills are needed at this time. Services needed include: transportation, meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, and companionship.
