About who needs care: Our daughter has epilepsy that is not completely controlled; she has severe cognitive impairment and limited motor skills. She is ambulatory, but only walks short distances with hand-hold. She has extremely limited communication skills. She does not have any aggressive behaviors. Needs help bathing, eating, dressing, toileting. She is in diapers but uses toilet on schedule. she needs epilepsy meds. She attends a day program. She has seizures about every 10 days to 2 weeks. She enjoys going out in the car and going shopping or strolling the neighborhood in her wheel chair, and long baths. She enjoys listening to her stories being read to her and listening to music; and motion (car rides, wheelchair outings). About the care needs: She enjoys enthusiastic people who are interested in trying to engage her and learn what she wants. She can be put off by people who are loud and assert their idea of fun on her, though she does need some insistence at times. She is small ( under 5 ft, 95 lbs) but is very strong and can be quite stubborn; often getting her started on eating and taking meds or going to the bathroom requires firmness, light force. The job is best suited for someone with the energy and interest of going places and stolling about or out walking in the neighborhood if weather permits. And someone who is familiar with grand mal seizures. Services needed include: meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, feeding, and bathing / dressing.
