RECALL ALERT: Pet Food Sold at PetSmart May Contain Metal

PetSmart issued back-to-back recalls for two brands of pet food sold at the retailer after consumers complained the wet food contained pieces of metal.

First, PetSmart pulled all 13.2 ounce cans of Grreat Choice Adult Food with Chicken & Rice Classic Ground after issuing the voluntary recall as a, “precautionary measure due to metal contamination that could potentially be a choking hazard to pets,” according to the Food and Drug Administration.

The dog food was sold between Oct. 10, 2016 and Feb. 7, 2017 at PetSmart stores, PetSmart.com, Pet360.com and PetFoodDirect.com. PetSmart advises consumers to stop using the product, has a best by date of Aug. 5, 2019.

One day later, PetSmart posted a voluntary recall from WellPet for several cans of its adult cat food.

The cat food recall is impacting Canadian customers too. PetSmart said the 12.5 ounce cans of Wellness Beef/Chicken GF Pate were sold at stores throughout the country and have an expiration date of Aug. 5, 2019.

PetSmart said no other items from Grreat Choice or WellPet are included in the recalls, and that no injuries or illnesses have been reported.

Consumers may return all recalled items listed above to their local PetSmart for a full refund.
