Eco spring cleaning essentials

Gather together your eco cleaning essentials and yes – it’s a simple list. One of the top benefits of eco cleaning is simplicity. Choose green cleaners like:

• Pure Castile liquid soap
• White vinegar
• Bicarbonate of soda
• Soda crystals
• Essential oils – try tea tree, lemon or peppermint
• Reusable microfibre cloths
• Mop and bucket
• Vacuum

Declutter the sustainable way

Before starting a spring clean in your home – declutter. The less things you have, the easier it is to clean. But don’t just toss everything in the bin – which will go to landfill. Declutter responsibly – use a simple 3 box system, that way nothing is just dumped:

• A box for items to sell – use sites like eBay or local Facebook selling groups
• A box for items to donate to charity or give away to friends
• A box for taking to the waste recycling facility

Freshen the air naturally

Nothing beats filling your home with fresh air – throwing open the windows is the very best way to make your home smell fresh and clean. A well aired home feels just so lovely to be in.

If you like to add a little fragrance then mix up your own natural room sprays using essential oils. You can use different oils for different rooms – try tea tree or peppermint in bathrooms and fresh clean scents like Bergamot or Citrus fragrances for living spaces.

Mix up your own Green Cleaners

Simple floor cleaner

• Half a bucket of hot water
• 2 tsp pure Castile liquid soap
• 10 drops essential oil of your choice
• 1 tbs white vinegar

This is ideal for cleaning tiled floors, laminate or lino.

Natural window cleaner

• half spray bottle of cold water
• 1 cup white vinegar
• 1 tsp pure Castile liquid soap

Shake before use

If you’re anxious about trying homemade natural cleaners then always test on an inconspicuous area first.

Dry laundry outdoors

Drying laundry outdoors is the BEST. It’s free, it’s easy and it uses no energy! Laundry dried outdoors always smells just amazing. It’s a great way to really freshen up washable fabrics throughout your home.
