Miami’s 5 Best Studios for Baby Yoga Classes

I’m all about introducing a moment of peace and zen to my toddler’s life. Life is equal amounts wonderful and tough — for both kiddos and adults. It helps to develop a practice that teaches you how to breathe through difficult moments and work on becoming both physically and mentally more adaptable and in tune with your body and the environment. It’s never too early to start working on that invaluable skill set!

Yoga is a great way to work on your breathing, flexibility, and meditative state. And there are a  handful of studios in Miami that expertly cater to a younger crowd. You’ll even find prenatal and Mommy & Me classes out there.

Ready to work on your little one’s warrior pose? Check out these 5 Miami-area yoga studios with classes that cater to kids.

At Body Belly Baby, the focus is just as much on mom as it is your little one! Starting with prenatal yoga and pilates, the offerings in this Downtown studio grow with you and your baby. You can transition to postnatal yoga and pilates classes that are done in conjunction with your newborn, and then in a few years, take your rambunctious toddler to their YogaMusic sessions.

What’s amazing about this studio is the community it has developed for moms. They also offer first-aid CPR classes, childbirth courses, and breastfeeding support groups for soon-to-be and new mommies in the area.

Nestled into a serene space on Coconut Grove’s tree-lined Commodore Plaza, this long-time studio is popular with locals and has plenty of classes for kids of all ages. Their Baby & Me class is billed as a “celebration of yoga and babyhood,” where moms and their little ones stretch, twist and strengthen their resolve in a light-hearted setting.

Dharma’s Yoki Yoga™ classes are derived from a registered children’s yoga school. The classes, which are open to kids from 5 to 12, combine yoga and meditation in a fun, age-appropriate way. Through a variety of poses, breathing exercises, storytelling/enactment, game-playing, art, and props, kids learn to destress and develop self-awareness — skills that can all be carried out into their day-to-day routine.

At this long-time Coral Gables studio, kids between the ages of 4 to 9 are guided through easy yoga poses, as well as visualization and breathing exercises as part the Sunday afternoon kids yoga session. Partner and group poses are used throughout the 80-minute class, helping your kiddo work on relaxation techniques, balance and concentration, which can be applied toward everyday situations.

And while your little one is getting their zen on, you can also find your own slice of nirvana by booking one of the studio’s deep tissue or ayurvedic massages. Scorpion pose not required!
