Try a few of these easy and affordable ideas to update your nursery to a dynamic toddler bedroom.

15 Toddler Boy Room Ideas

In a blink of an eye, your tiny baby has become a toddler, and his bedroom needs are completely different. Have no fear, because these 15 toddler boy room ideas are sure to give you some inspiration.

  1. Paint
Interior designer Kate Jackson suggests changing the paint, even just one accent wall. Jackson says, “Paint is an inexpensive — yet visually effective! — way to transform a room from a sweet infant space to a rockin’ toddler nursery. You may want to paint a bold accent wall, use chalkboard paint for your little Picasso’s musings or paint an array of stripes in multicolors.” House of Rose goes bold with a playful green wall.

  2. Desk
Your budding toddler is going to start spending more time reading, drawing and playing on his own. Interior designer Blanche Garcia recommends having a small desk in your son’s room so that you can “get him used to not just playing on the floor.” Install one on the wall like The Kavanaugh Report did for a work space that’s just the right height.

  3. Furniture
Check out local resale shops and websites for toddler beds. “To start, introduce yourself to local furniture consignment stores where you can score wooden beds (again, paint can be your friend!) for next to nothing,” suggests Jackson. Add chalkboard paint to a bed frame like Sample Sale Mom and kids will be begging to get into bed every night.

  4. Big Boy Bed
Garcia recommends that you “get either a double bed if you can fit it at this stage, a trundle bed or spring to get bunk beds but don’t use the top bunk yet. Eventually you’ll have sleep overs!” See how to style bunk beds at Little Green Notebook.

  5. Decals
Why not think about getting some vinyl decals? They’re affordable and don’t harm your paint job. You can also decorate an accent wall with just a simple decal design, like His & Hers did.

  6. Letters
Follow Hyphen Interiors’ example and hang up some alphabet letters. Garcia suggests that you find vinyl letters or numbers to make the decorating easy on you and your budget.

  7. Artwork
Use your son’s own art to decorate the walls. Learn how to string up wire and easily change out pictures on Random Thoughts of a Supermom.

  8. Toddler Closet
Garcia says, “Your child had tiny clothes as a baby, but now clothes have changed. There are more normal-size hangers, and more space is needed for jeans, jackets and shoes.” Really make your toddler’s closet user friendly with help from Our Fifth House.

  9. Bookshelves
Add shelves so he can not only choose which books to read but also have an easy time putting them away on his own. Learn how on Thinking Outside the Sandbox.

  10. Craft Table
Toddlers love creating artwork, so if you have the room add a little craft table to their room. This will help be another quiet time activity for him to work on, and it can also double as a desk. Fork, Paper, Scissors tells you how.

  11. Add Fun
A rock wall might sound extreme, but Another Big Bite proves how well it can work for an active little boy.

  12. Tent or Fort
“Transform a baby’s room to a toddler’s room by getting a new rug, bedding and tent where forts can be had and books can be read,” suggests Jackson. Little Pink Monster makes one with two tension rods.

  13. Stuffed Animal Cage
Rather than have stuffed animals thrown around the room, create a cage for your toddler’s favorite stuffed friends like The Garden does.

  14. Storage Containers
“I’m a big fan of cubes as storage, sold virtually everywhere in different shapes, sizes and colors,” says Jackson. “They can sit at child’s eye level for easy access to get books, games, toys and arts and crafts. Some have the options to be covered, too, which is a nice feature to conceal toys.” Kids will love helping you customize the ones at IHeart Organizing.

  15. Keep It Simple
Think about reusing a piece of furniture in a new way. For example, Garcia recommends replacing a changing table with a wardrobe by removing the changing pad and putting shelving on top of the table. Fussy Monkey Business turns a bland side table into a Lego table with some paint and a basket.

After a few simple changes like those found in these toddler boy room ideas, your nursery can be easily transformed into your toddler boy’s dream bedroom! If you need help, you can hire a personal assistant who can do everything from shop to paint with you to speed up the redecorating process!
